In order to explain the large data movements in the HPC centers, Maestro has created an explanatory video (see below), making an analogy with online video conferencing, that nowadays millions of people use every day at the same time.
Given the surge of video conferencing due to the COVID19, sharing the large amount of information required for multi-conferencing has become a bottleneck for these platforms, often leading to unexpected delays or even failures.
In a similar fashion, HPC applications involve large storage systems which exchange over 25 terabytes per hour and 150 terabytes per day. Therefore, HPC centers urgently need more advanced technologies to cope with these extremely large volumes of data, and that’s where Maestro comes in: a smarter, large-scale data movement solution for HPC centers that enables distributed storage and faster retrieval of information archived in storage systems.
Maestro is not about faster video conferencing, Maestro is about faster supercomputing applied to solve the most important challenges in our society. For example, Maestro will allow better and faster weather predictions for hurricanes where evacuation decisions need to be made about days before to help save the lives of people around the world.
